Built by a contractor, used on real projects

Daily reports only work if the crew actually uses them.

I built a simple daily field reporting system for our own construction work after getting frustrated with tools that were either too complicated, too expensive, or never really stuck in the field.

Short overview video

See how we use Daily Field Report on real projects and why it has been easier to keep up with than other systems we tried.

Why I built this

I run a construction business and kept running into the same issue: daily field records that weren’t consistent or didn’t really hold up when something went sideways.

Most of the tools out there were either too complicated or too expensive, so I ended up putting together a simple system we now use across our projects. It helps us keep a better record of daily work, jobsite conditions, photos, weather, and labor without creating extra headaches for the field.

This wasn’t built by a software company. It was built out of frustration with what was already out there, and we use it ourselves day to day.

What it helps you keep track of

The goal is simple: make it easier to build a clean, useful daily record without creating one more system the crew avoids.

Daily work completed

Keep a running record of what actually happened on site each day.

Photos and site conditions

Capture conditions in a way that is easier to reference later if questions come up.

Weather and job impacts

Document weather alongside the daily report so the record is more complete.

Labor tracking

Keep labor information tied to the daily report without making the process heavy.

Why this has worked better for us

A lot of systems look good in a demo and then fall apart in the field. The difference for us was keeping it simple enough that people would actually use it.

What usually breaks down

  • Too many steps for the field to keep up with
  • Too much office-style software for jobsite reality
  • Information ends up scattered across phones, texts, and notebooks
  • Daily reports get skipped when the day gets busy

What we were aiming for

  • A simple process the crew can keep up with
  • A cleaner record of daily work and conditions
  • Something affordable enough for small and mid-sized contractors
  • A system built around the way the work actually happens

More videos and walk-throughs

The overview video is the best place to start, but there are more short videos on the channel that walk through different parts of the process, show how the system works in the field, and explain why we built it the way we did
